How to Manage Moving Stress in December

December 1, 2019

There’s No Place Like Home for the Holidays…

Planning a move during the busiest time of the year can be a daunting task. However, there are some perks to moving in December. For example, a slower period for packing and moving companies can lead to lower rates and finding available movers easier.

Fortunately, ice and snow don’t wreak havoc when moving into a new home in Gulfport MS or anywhere along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Here are a few steps to take to help with the move:

Planning

Planning is crucial, get a head start and plan your move in advance.  Schedule the movers, start packing early on and organize utility shut-offs.  Our New Home Sales Specialist can help provide the list of utility companies for our comm.

Minimize

Clutter can cause lots of undue stress in any household, so why take it with you? Go through your house and sell, donate or discard any unnecessary items to take the stress out of the move. Free up space for any holiday décor you would like to place in your new home.

Keep Important Documents Together

Moving into a new home includes lots of paperwork, from closing papers to moving contracts. There are other important documents you may want to keep with you at all times including:

  • Birth Certificates
  • Marriage Certificates
  • School Records
  • Medical Records
  • Vet Records
  • Bank Records
  • Important Contacts
  • Utility Company

Practice Time Management

The holidays can be one of the busiest times of the year. With work, festivities and other hectic schedules, time can pass faster than imagined. The longer you wait to start organizing your move, the more stressful it will be. A good rule of thumb is to set aside a few hours a day to organize, purge and pack.

Get Your New Home Move-In Ready

Be sure to turn the utilities on prior to moving so that the home is warm and has lighting. If possible, do a pre-clean a day or two in advance for one less thing to be concerned with. Don’t worry about cooking on the first night. Try to grab a few take-out menus on your previous trips to treat your family to a well-deserved meal after a long day unpacking.

Final Thoughts

There’s no place like home for the holidays and what better place to enjoy family and friends than in a brand-new home? Don’t let a last-minute harried move turn you into a Grinch! Find more moving tips on our MOVING TIPS blog post.
