The Briella – Capturing the Modern Farmhouse Design

When it came time to design The Briella, a 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath custom home in Gulfport’s Oak Landing community, we decided on a modern farmhouse design. Modern farmhouse combines contemporary design with a rustic, cozy feel to create a fresh take on the country-inspired style.

The exterior of this home incorporates Hardie plank siding in a deep blue-gray color, while the shutters and trim add lots of white accents. To make the home more inviting to family and friends, a warm shade of yellow was added to the front door. A gas lantern, recessed lighting and lights in the soffits create a fabulous look day or night.

Inside, you enter into a spacious great room with neutral hand-scraped hardwood floors, wainscoting, 10-foot ceilings, crown molding and lots of windows. Our Master Craftsman went a step above by adding crown above the window moldings to add to the unique design.

In the middle of the room, you will find a double-sided, see-through fireplace. There are privacy levels in the fireplace glass, allowing for separation or a clear look through to the beautiful dining area and kitchen.

Since you can’t have a modern farmhouse design without shiplap, so we have added some to the fireplace wall painted in a crisp white to match the other woodwork in the room. The big question – does the fireplace put off heat? YES, you can have it on either side or both sides at once.

As you pass the fireplace, you’re sure to fall in love with the dining room and kitchen. The chandelier in the dining room is a stunning graphite color that perfectly pairs the island pendant and the smaller one over the sink. The ceiling has a unique tongue and groove feature stained to match the custom hood vent over the gas cooktop.

Gray quartz countertops grace the kitchen island, while white quartz is on the cabinets along the walls. The arabesque backsplash is the perfect shade of gray to match the island quartz and the white grout makes it pop. Wood cabinets by Kith are painted bright white and have a pewter glaze, which also matches the backsplash. Stainless steel appliances, including a French door refrigerator and farmhouse sink, complete the design.

To give the Owner’s Retreat an extra level of comfort and high-end style, a grid wall was added and painted with Oyster Bay by Sherwin Williams. The remaining walls are a soothing Sea Salt color. Recessed lighting, a trey ceiling and beautiful pendant lights add to the opulent feel.

As you enter through a barn door into the Owner’s Bath, you will love the spa-like feel with two large vanities and an impressive 6-foot soaker tub. Custom mirrors designed to match the cabinets and a walk-in shower with a beautiful glass trim add another level of rustic elegance.

As with the rest of the home, Susan, our New Home Specialist, and the builder, Mike Baudry, have made sure there are lovely surprises around every corner, even in the owner’s closet. There are lots of custom built-ins, a trey ceiling, crown molding and a mini-chandelier!
