How to Create a Bedroom that Grows with Your Child

July 7, 2020

New homes in Gulfport MS give parents the perfect opportunity to create dream bedrooms for their children. But as kids grow, their dreams and tastes change. With a little advance planning, you can design their bedroom decor so it grows up with them.

Start with a Neutral Background

Think of the room itself as the background that will allow the décor to stand out. Paint the walls a neutral color that coordinates with the rest of your home. The installed flooring should also be neutral. Invest your money in good quality materials and craftsmanship.

Add Timeless Furniture

Skip the race car beds and matched sets of themed furniture. Look for a classic bed in a style that your child can use throughout his teen and college years. You might even consider purchasing a double or queen bed if you plan to eventually use the room as a guest room.

You don’t have to furnish the room with a matched set, but do choose a dresser or armoire that complements the bed. Keep safety in mind when kids are small. Low sturdy dressers are better than tall ones that can easily tip over if a child decides to climb on them.

Decorate with Inexpensive Accessories

This is the fun part! Select inexpensive accessories to update the room’s style and décor as your child grows. Let kids help you shop for bedding, wall art, toy storage and area rugs that will brighten the space and create the desired look.

Acadian Homes offers floor plans with various bedroom configurations to suit your family’s needs. When your kids are young, you might prefer The Chablis floor plan, where the owner’s bedroom is next to the secondary bedrooms. If the children are older, a plan like The Bienville might appeal to you, since the owner’s suite is separated from the secondary bedrooms by a spacious family room.

Because we’re a true custom home builder, we sit with you to discuss your needs and design a home around them. Each of our one-of-a-kind homes in Plantation Oaks and Oak Landing are designed for comfortable family living. We can also build on your lot if our calendar allows.
